- Add a PDF.
- Choose a tool — text, highlight, draw, shape or comment — and click or drag on the page.
- Select Save annotations, then download.
About this tool
Mark up a PDF the way you would on paper: type text anywhere, highlight, underline or strike through passages, draw freehand, add rectangles, circles and lines, and leave comments.
Text, highlights, drawings and shapes are written into the page itself, so everyone sees them in any PDF reader, on any device. Comments are added as standard PDF notes that appear in the reader's comments panel.
Annotate PDF adds markings on top of the page; it doesn't change the document's existing text. To remove sensitive content permanently, use Redact PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to PDFPUMA?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and processed on your device and the result is created there too — they are not sent to PDFPUMA's servers.
Can I edit the existing text in my PDF?
No. Annotate PDF adds new markings on top of the page. It doesn't rewrite text that's already in the document.
Will other people see my annotations?
Yes. Text, highlights, drawings and shapes become part of the page. Comments appear as notes in the reader's comments panel.
Which plan includes Annotate PDF?
Annotate PDF is included in Starter, Business and Agency.
Can I use password-protected PDFs?
Not with this tool yet. PDFPUMA doesn't bypass PDF passwords or permissions. If you own the file, remove the password in the app you used to protect it, then try again.
